While I love the sunshine and hope that Spring brings, craziness follows close behind. With Spring comes graduation celebrations, bridal showers, weddings, soccer, several birthdays, and our son’s first communion this year. I love festive celebrations accompanied with great food. When time’s scarce, I look for simple no fuss yet fabulous options. My favorite options are those that are easy for the kids to help with, which is why I really like this book! It is filled with fabulous ideas for making cupcakes (scratch, from a mix, or even store bought) over-the-top cute, that will look as great as they taste. It’s full of cake and frosting recipes and decorating techniques simple enough the kiddos can help, that won’t break the bank, and don’t require any sleep deprivation. I’m in. All in. What about you? Would you like to see one of my favorites?

Have a beautiful butterfly flutter onto your cupcake.

You need:

Green frosting

2 candy slices, one yellow and one pink

Black licorice string

1 tiny jelly candy

2 fruit-shaped candies

1.         Frost the cupcake with the green frosting:

Drop a spoonful on top of a cupcake.

Use a knife to spread the frosting to the edges of the cupcake.

2.         Cut the yellow and pink slices in half with scissors. Cut two short
pieces of black licorice string.

3.         Place the yellow slices on top of cupcake in the center to form
the butterfly’s lower wings.

4.         Place the jelly candy and the fruit-shaped candies between the wings to form the butterfly’s body. Place pink slices to the sides of them to make the other set of wings. Place the two pieces of black licorice on top of the body as antennae. Try this with different colored candies—you can’t go wrong.

Isn’t that darling? I can just picture these sweet cupcakes at one of my daughter’s parties. I also think they would be fun to take to my son’s preschool to celebrate spring with, they just learned about butterflies and their life cycle! And yeps, I’ve got one copy up for grabs for one of you!

My favorite tip is make a countdown list with each day listed the week before the party. Write the tasks for each day and cross them off. That gives me such a rush! I love crossing things off lists! (Weird, I know!) Plus, I don’t have to wrack my brain and waste time thinking of the same things over and over! 🙂

Another tip: get individual portions ready ahead of time. Ex: Scoop out ice cream into cupcake liners and put on a cookie sheet in the freezer. No wasting time, waiting kids crying or getting sticky hands during the party. :Cindy Best cbest79@gmail.com

I like to make as many things the night before as possible and have everything ready in one spot, so you aren’t running all over last minute. eatcakefordinner{at}digis{dot}net

I’m not sure I have one! haha My daughter’s 5th birthday party is next weekend and I’m scrambling to get things done! I guess the best crunch time tip for me would be to STOP waiting until the last minute EVERY single year!! 🙂

I plan a year in advance and throughout the year, I will gather all of the supplies I will need. I love planning parties so I have to outline everything beforehand. I decorate the night before, leaving the little things for the day of.

    Great giveaway.

What a great book. I love fun cupcakes. (Well, I love boring cupcakes too, lol …. or cake.)

But I would love to win this.

My favorite crunch time tip is …. clean AFTER the party! It is just going to get all messed up anyway!

Something I always have on hand at the house is tomatoes, onions, peppers and cilantro. I cook with them often so I always keep them stocked. And in a pinch, I can whip up a batch of salsa in just a couple of minutes. It’s a party favorite and the leftovers are so versatile. I can use it to spice up a quesadilla, salads, sandwiches or just having it around for our own snack.

But the party wouldn’t be a party without fun cupcakes! I’d love to have this book. Thanks for always having great information on your blog.

Making as much as I can ahead of time is crucial, but when it comes down to the last minute details, I love to put on some upbeat music to keep me motivated, energetic and less stressed while I finish up things. amaranthandkale(at)gmail(dot)com

Great giveaway. I have made a name for myself as a cupcake girl, because I love making them for kids and parties.
