How To Make Easy Lego Necklaces

Have you ever wondered how to make easy Lego necklaces? We wanted to make them for my son’s birthday party favors and found a really good tutorial here at The Long Thread that was a great beginning point for us. Though I really like the chains that they used, my kids have a really hard time working the ball chain clasps and we even lost a Lego during the struggle to unclasp a necklace. I wanted the necklaces to be easy for the kids, especially since most of them just finished preschool which is why I looked into other stringing options. Our necklaces ended up light weight and easy since we made them long enough to slip over their heads. My boys have been wearing theirs for days now and when it came time to hand out the Lego necklaces at the party, the other kids were excited to have their very own necklace. What a fun way to celebrate with Lego fun! Here’s how you can make your own Lego necklaces.

 

 

Materials:

~necklace bails, like these or these  {be sure that yours have enough surface area to cover the center piece on the back of the Lego. If they are to small, they won’t work.)
~square Legos~E-6000 glue (I used E-6000, but have read that epoxy glue works well also)
~1/8″ Silky Cord (100% nylon cord that can be purchased by the yard or on the roll as pictured below at craft stores like JoAnn’s)
~Scissors

Once you have gathered your materials these DIY Lego necklaces are really very simple to make. First glue your necklace bail to the back of your Lego square. I preferred the E-6000 because it was thick enough to hold the bail in place without allowing it to slip. Let dry according to glue directions. Cut a piece of cord 30-inches long. Slide the cord through hole in the necklace bail. Holding the ends of the cord together, slide the Lego piece to the center of the cord and tie a knot using both strands to keep it centered. Like this.

 

Then tie a knot at the end to close the loop. You may want to measure the necklace to it’s owner since every kid is a different size and a necklace that fits just right for one may hang too long or short on someone else. It’s as simple as that. While we have found that the E-6000 holds pretty well, it’s not foolproof (or waterproof) so make sure the kids you share these necklaces with know not to place Legos, or other small objects, in their mouths just to be safe.
