I’ve been really excited to share the newest section of JCD with you all, Good Reads. I can’t tell you how much I enjoy getting lost in the pages of of book. I love to read! There isn’t a better way to escape than through the words on a page. But life is crazy, hectic, and so so busy right now and sadly I have to admit that sometimes I just can’t find time to sit with a book and read, not if I’m going to get meals on the table, take care of laundry and cleaning, take care of my kids with school, appointments and activities, and manage to find time to sleep. And then I found something called Audible. One of my very dear friends introduced it to me and I’m so glad she did! I wish I had found it sooner. It’s an audiobook service. It is a game changer! Now I can listen while I’m cleaning, working, driving, and exercising. I’m ecstatic because once again I am checking books off of my reading list! My mind is filled with stories and I couldn’t be happier about this. Wahoooo!
This is where Good Reads comes in. Now that I’m experiencing all these wonderful stories, I’d like to share them with any of you who are looking for books to add to your reading list. I’ll post about them and put them on their very own page so that when you are looking for something new to read you can use the tab at the top of the page to find my list of Good Reads. It’s the beginning of our own little book club. I’m excited to see where it goes. Let’s start with one of my favorites: Lilac Girls by Martha Hall Kelly.
Lilac Girls is inspired by the life of a real World War II heroine and is a remarkable novel that reveals the power that women, almost forgotten, have to change history as they search for love, freedom, and second chances. In this fascinating tale, three heroines, a New York socialite, a polish teenager, and young physician will keep you turning pages as their story unfolds as their lives intertwine and their paths cross in a plight to right the wrongs they endure and witness during World War II.
Caroline Ferriday, the New York socialite who has her hands full with her post at the French consulate finds herself tangled in a new love affair as she faces the challenges Hitler’s army imposes as it invades Poland in and changes her world as it quickly looks to France.
Kasia Kuzmerick, is the Polish teenager grappling with life as her carefree youth slips away as she is drawn deeper into the underground resistance movement as a courier. In a tense world filled with watchful eyes one simple mistake can have harrowing consequences.
Meanwhile, an ad for a government medical position seems like Herta Oberheuser’s ticket out of a bleak like for a young female physician during this time of war. She soon finds herself lost in a storm as her fundamental beliefs are challenged by Nazi power and secrets.
The lives of these three women collide when the unfathomable happens and Kasia is sent to Ravensbrück, a Nazi concentration camp for women. Their stories intertwine across continents as Caroline and Kasia strive to bring justice to the victims of Ravensbruck, who are come to be known as the Lilac Girls.
While this story isn’t 100 percent true, it is based on real events and facts of the Holocaust. It brings light to some atrocities of World War II that I wasn’t aware of. It’s a story that will stick with you and reminds us to protect, love, and care for our world so that history can never repeat itself. Interested in reading it? Good! I happen to have one copy to give to one of you!

More about Audible
As I mentioned, Audible is an audiobook service. Your first book is FREE. You subscribe to it for $14.95/month. You get one credit each month and receive 30% off additional purchases. There is also the option to purchase extra credits and you can swap any audiobooks that you don’t love anytime. You also have the option to purchase books using a credit card rather than use your credits which I do on occasion if a book I am interested in is on sale or just not very expensive. This way I can leave my credits for books that would cost more.
Another reason I love love love audible so much is because it’s great for road trips! One of my kids gets really sick if he reads in the car. I’m one of those crazy mean moms that doesn’t let them pay video games for the duration of the trip and you can imagine how that led to some interesting times! Are we there yet?!?! Now that we have audible our road trips are so much fun! We’ve found several series that our entire family has been exited about. I can’t recommend it more! Seriously give it a try. They are offering a free 30-day free trial with TWO credits. You get to keep your books even if you cancel which is pretty cool! What are you waiting for? Just click the affiliate link below to get started.

Very difficult to narrow it down to just one book…but one of my favorite authors is Kate Morton.
I have looked at this book several times, guess it’s finally time I read it!
I absolutely love to read, so picking a favorite book is like picking a favorite child. I can’t do it!
