4th of July Dessert (Wild Berry Sundae with Toasted Pound Cake Stars)

I know I said I was going to wait until Wednesday to share this 4th of July dessert with you all, but since the 4th is on Thursday, I thought it would be better to give you a day to round up the ingredients. This festive Wild Berry Sundae with Toasted Pound Cake Stars is fast and easy to whip up and tastes amazing! Depending on how much time you have, you can bake your favorite homemade pound cake or take a shortcut and just buy a loaf from your grocery store. If you can’t find one in the bakery, you can almost always count on Sarah Lee in the frozen dessert section. Usually I’m a homemade kind of girl, but with the ice cream, homemade berry sauce, and toasting, I don’t know if anybody would even notice or care whether or not you took the time to make your cake from scratch. And while they may not exactly notice where their cake came from, they will totally notice the kid running amok the fireworks trying to light a sparkler himself so if their is ever an occasion to take a short cut, this is the one. Besides, it’s no fun being stuck in the kitchen while everyone else plays, so give yourself a break  and make time to join the fun. This is the perfect dessert because it is as easy to make as as it is delicious to eat! These sundaes start with your classic all American vanilla ice cream. I don’t think I’ve ever met anyone who didn’t like vanilla ice cream. The ice cream is topped off with a homemade Wild Berry Syrup with Fresh Strawberries (no mushy berries here) and sits a top a slice of buttery toasted pound cake. A festive pound cake star creates the perfect 4th of July Dessert!

Wild Berry Sundae with Toasted Pound Cake Stars

Ingredients

• Fresh Strawberry Wild Berry Syrup
• Vanilla Ice Cream
• Pound Cake
• Butter

Instructions

1. Make berry syrup. While it's cooling, slice pound cake into slices about 1-inch thick, and spread both sides with butter. You can serve your sundaes on top of a piece of toasted pound cake, or you can just garnish them with a few cut out stars. Toast pound cake under the broiler, on the grill, or even on the griddle. When the first side is golden brown, flip and toast the other side. When the cake is toasted, use a small star shaped cookie cutter to cut some of the toasted cake into stars. Place a piece of toasted pound cake on plate or in a bowl, top with ice cream, spoon berry syrup over it, and garnish with a toasted cake star. That's all you have to do to serve an easy and fabulous dessert that is perfect for any summer day, but especially festive for the 4th of July!
